Mosul, March 31, SPA -- A U.S. soldier has died from injurieshe sustained during a clash in northern Mosul, the militarysaid Thursday. The soldier was among several people injured Wednesdayduring a routine check of vehicles, Lt. Col. Andre Lancesaid. Several U.S. soldiers tried to approach a taxi, andgunmen inside opened fire, Lance said. The soldiers returned fire, killing the assailants, andthe taxi exploded, likely because it was carryingexplosives, Lance said. The soldiers then came under fireand several were injured, including the soldier who laterdied of his wounds, Lance said. He added that two civilians were killed, but Iraqi policesaid six civilians died in the incident. The name of the soldier was being withheld pendingnotification of next of kin.
