Washington, Sept 19, SPA -- A new poll shows U.S. President George W. Bush with a double-digit lead over Senator U.S. John Kerry (Democrat from Massachusetts) in the race for the White House. The poll from the USA Today newspaper shows 55 percent of those surveyed would vote for Bush, while 42 percent would choose Kerry. Previous polls had shown the race to be much tighter. But many election analysts believe the advantage Bush received from the Republican National Convention has actually increased. Matthew Dowd, chief strategist for the Bush campaign, said the latest figures make it very unlikely Kerry can defeat the president. Kerry would "have to defy history" if he hopes to defeat Bush, according to Dowd.--SPA1043 Local Time 0743 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/202869
