Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah to SPA: Condition of Iraqi Siamese Twins Omar, Ali Stable after 12 Days of Successful Separation Surgery

Riyadh, January 24, 2023, SPA -- Advisor at the Royal Court, Supervisor General of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), and head of the medical and surgical team for separating Siamese twins Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah has stressed that the condition of the Iraqi Siamese twins Omar and Ali is stable after 12 days of their successful separation surgery at King Abdullah Specialized Children’s Hospital (KASCH) of King Abdulaziz Medical City of the National Guard in Riyadh. In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Dr. Al Rabeeah said that all biomarkers of the twins have become normal and the twins started lactation through a pipe and started interacting normally with their parents without developing any alarming signs for the medical team. Dr. Al Rabeeah explained that the twins will be transferred from the intensive care room to the children's ward within two days, confirming their improved health condition. He added that the twins, Omar and Ali, are expected to stay at the hospital for 4 to 6 weeks before the medical team decides if they could be discharged to continue their treatment from their home. Dr. Al-Rabeeah extended the sincerest gratitude and appreciation to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, for their generous support and concern, stressing that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will remain a medical landmark and a beacon for human work initiatives and supporting the needy. The Iraqi Siamese twins, Omar and Ali, underwent a delicate separation surgery on Thursday, January 12, 2023, which lasted for 11 hours and was carried out through 6 phases, with the participation of 27 consultants, specialists, and nursing and technical cadres.
