Jeddah, October 22, 2022, SPA -- The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia supports the international community in raising awareness of International Stuttering Awareness Day, which falls on the 22nd of October every year. The celebration of this International Day has been going on since 1998, to raise awareness of stuttering, its causes, and ways to deal with stammers. The participation of the concerned authorities from educational institutions, health sectors, and various associations on this day includes organizing many awareness activities aimed at raising health awareness to preserve the health and safety of all members of society and urging people to follow proper practices. International organizations and relevant bodies support various activities in solidarity with stuttering patients or stammers around the world and educate the public on how to deal with people who suffer from speech disorders known as stuttering. Specialists defined stuttering as a disorder when speaking, where the patient finds it difficult to speak, as this disorder may be worse when the person is excited, tired, or under pressure, while its types include early stuttering, which is the most common and occurs during the early stage of childhood, while the delayed "acquired" stuttering is caused by a stroke, head trauma, or other types of brain injury. Specialists called for the need to seek help when several signs leading to stuttering appear, including the persistence of stuttering among children from 6 to 12 months or more, when stuttering appears among children after the age of three and a half years, and when it increases especially in families that have a history of stuttering, or when the child starts having difficulties when speaking. --SPA 19:42 LOCAL TIME 16:42 GMT 0016 www.spa.gov.sa/w1801300
