UN Special Envoy to Yemen Announces Extension of Yemeni Truce for Another Two Months

New York, Aug. 02, 2022, SPA -- The UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg, announced that the two sides in Yemen agreed to extend the truce with the same terms for another two months, from August 02, 2022, to October 02, 2022. In a press statement late Tuesday, Grundberg said that this extension of the truce includes a commitment by the Yemeni parties to intensify negotiations to reach an expanded truce agreement as soon as possible, expressing his gratitude for their approval of this extension of the truce and for their continuing constructive engagement with his office in implementing the truce and seeking to expand it. He further said: to consolidate the opportunity that the truce offers towards sustainable peace, I will also intensify my efforts with the parties to reach an extended truce agreement as soon as possible. He stressed that this expanded truce proposal will provide the opportunity to negotiate a comprehensive ceasefire, make progress on humanitarian and economic issues and prepare for the resumption of the Yemeni-led political process under the auspices of the United Nations to reach a sustainable and just peace.
