GCC Secretary General Welcomes Saudi Arabia's Initiative to End the Crisis in Yemen

Riyadh, Mar. 22, 2021, SPA -- Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Dr. Nayef bin Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf welcomed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's initiative to end the crisis in Yemen, and reach a comprehensive political solution, through an inclusive cease-fire in Yemen, under the supervision and monitoring of the United Nations and commitment to the arrangements of Stockholm accord. Al-Hajraf expressed support for allocating the revenues of Hodeida port at the Yemeni Central Bank in Hodeida to pay civilian staff salaries, in accordance with the pay-roll of 2014. He also extended support for starting political consultations among Yemeni parties to reach a comprehensive political solution, according to the GCC Initiative, its executive mechanism, the outputs of the Comprehensive National Dialogue and the Security Council resolution No. 2216, under the supervision of the UN envoy to Yemen and in support of the US envoy to Yemen. Al-Hajraf emphasized that the initiative reflects the great keenness and the sincere willingness to end the Yemeni crisis, in order that the entire segments of the Yemeni society shall enjoy security and stability, following years of war due to the Houthi militias coup d'état over the issue of legitimacy, citing the negative impact of the continuing Iranian interventions and backing up of these militias. He called on the entire Yemeni parties to respond and accept the initiative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to overcome the existing blocks, superpose the interests of the fraternal Yemeni people and pave the atmosphere for kicking off development wheel, in all Yemeni governorates, calling on the international community to adopt and support the initiative to save Yemen, lift the humanitarian suffering off the Yemeni people and create an atmosphere suitable for involving in the peaceful process, based on the three references represented by the GCC Initiative with its executive mechanism, outputs of the National Dialogue and the Security Council resolution No. 2216. Al-Hajraf valued the role and endeavor of the Kingdom to support Yemeni security and stability, praising the positive role of the Sultanate of Oman to end the Yemeni crisis.
