Prime Minister of Pakistan Receives OIC Secretary General

Makkah, May 9, 2021, SPA -- Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Imran Khan received in Makkah today the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen. During the meeting, they discussed developments in the Islamic world, the situation of Muslims in non-OIC countries and the issues on the OIC's agenda, in particular combating Islamophobia. The Secretary General praised Pakistan's efforts in presenting the International Day to Combat Islamophobia resolution adopted by the Council of Foreign Ministers at its last session in Niger. He also praised Pakistan's leading of efforts of OIC member states at the United Nations in New York to present a draft resolution to the next session of the General Assembly regarding the adoption of an international day to combat Islamophobia. The meeting also discussed cooperation between the OIC and Pakistan in light of Pakistan's hosting the next session of the Council of Foreign Ministers. The two sides stressed the necessity of strengthening joint Islamic action, cooperation and solidarity among member states to confront all common challenges.
