Final result of Austrian vote: Conservatives win with 31.5 per cent

Vienna, Muharram 29, 1439, October 19, 2017, SPA -- The conservative People's Party (OeVP) won Austria's parliamentary elections with 31.5 per cent of votes, the Interior Ministry confirmed Thursday night as it announced the final result. With a gain of 7.5 percentage points, the OeVP overtook the Social Democratic Party (SPOe) in Sunday's vote to become the strongest party in the lower house. The SPOe collected 26.9 per cent of the vote, nearly unchanged from 2013 elections, while the far-right Freedom Party garnered 26 per cent, 5.5 percentage points more than in the previous poll.
