Riyadh, Dhu-AlHijjah 10, 1437, September 12, 2016, SPA -- The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) expressed profound concern over the recently-passed U.S. congress legislation named Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act which flagrantly contradicts the firm principles of international law, particularly the principle of equality of sovereignty among countries of the world as stated in the United Nations charter. In a statement, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashed Al-Zayani, the Secretary General of the GCC, said that the GCC countries consider this U.S. legislation as contradicting the bases and principles of relations among countries, as well as the principle of sovereign immunity, a firm principle in the international laws and norms, adding that undermining this principle would inflict negative repercussion on relations between countries, including the United States of America in addition to the international economic harms that would arise from passing such a bill. He said that the GCC countries are gearing forward to see the U.S. not adopting this legislation which would otherwise establish a flagrant precedent in international relations as it embodies instigation of chaos, instability in world relations and dragging the world order backwards. --SPA 12:19 LOCAL TIME 09:19 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
