GCC Secretary Gen. Expresses Pity for Yemeni Consultations Failure in Geneva

Riyadh, Ramadan 4, 1436, Jun 21, 2015, SPA -- Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani expressed strong pity for the failure of Yemeni parties to reach an agreement to carry out UN Security Council Resolution آo. 2216, which contains a permanent cease-fire, to facilitate providing the Yemeni people with relief aid. In a press statement released here today, he called on anti-legitimacy parties to give priority to the ultimate interest of Yemen, away from narrow-minded sectarian interests, that contradict with the Yemeni people interests, as embodied in the outputs of the wide-scale National Dialogue Conference. Al-Zayani, also, expressed appreciation of strenuous endeavors exerted by the UN to implement Security Council Resolution 2216, backing up efforts of the UN Secretary General Envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Al-Sheikh Ahmed and highly estimation for good offices exerted by the ambassadors of the G16, in Yemen, to make UN endeavors, in this respect, a success, calling for continuation of efforts to reach a mandatory mechanism to implement UN Resolution, in order to consolidate security and stability, in Yemen and the region, as well. He reiterated GCC member states stance backing the legitimate government, led by President Abdu Rabbo Mansour Hadi, hailing its positive cooperation with grateful efforts exerted by the UN to mitigate brethren Yemeni people suffering, reaffirming GCC member states endeavor and keenness to reach a political solution, in accordance with the GCC-sponsored Initiative and its executive mechanism, the outputs of the National Dialogue and UN Security Council resolutions, related to Yemen. -- SPA 00:56 LOCAL TIME 21:56 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
