Baghdad, Jan 8, 2020, SPA -- Iraq condemned latest Iranian missile attack on the two Iraqi military bases hosting American and international coalition forces. A press release issued by the Presidency of the Republic of Iraq here today said: "We are following with great concern the dangerous developments taking place in the region, and the Presidency condemns the Iranian missile strikes that have hit military sites on Iraqi soil, and renews its rejection of the repeated violation of our national sovereignty and turning Iraq into a battlefield." It also affirmed the Iraqis ’refusal to push their country into a new war or that Iraq be a threat to any of its neighbors and the Presidency of the Republic of Iraq drew attention to the fact that the presence of the international coalition forces, in Iraq, was based on the agreements concluded between the Iraqi government and the countries from which the coalition is formed for the necessities of fighting terrorism. And it called for restraint and wisdom, to give precedence to the language of dialogue and not to be drawn into open war that threatens the security and peace of the region and the world. For his part, Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mohammed Al-Halbousi condemned in a press statement here today, too, the Iranian violation of Iraqi sovereignty, calling on the Iraqi government to take the necessary political, legal and security measures to preserve Iraqi sovereignty and keep the country away from the conflict circle. On the other hand, the Iraqi (Political) Forces Alliance, in a press statement, condemned the Iranian missile attacks, calling on the Iraqi government to take the necessary preventive measures to ensure the sovereignty of the Iraqi territories, from any violation and military action from any party, whatsoever, it might be.
