New York, July 24, 2019, SPA -- The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has stressed that there is no justification for continuing flagrant Israeli violations against the Palestinian people, especially in light of the international consensus on the Palestinians' right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state on the borders of June 1967 with Jerusalem (AL-Quds) as its capital which is guaranteed by international resolutions. KSA has also stressed that there is no justification for the continuation of conflict in light of the emphasis of Arab countries on achieving a comprehensive peace with Israel based on the Arab peace initiative and international legitimacy resolutions. This came in KSA's speech on behalf of the Arab Group and member states of the Arab League before the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Administrative meeting on the item on economic and social repercussions of Israel on living conditions of Palestinian people in occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem (Al-Quds), and Arab population in occupied Syrian Golan, which was delivered by KSA's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah bin Yahya Al-Mouallimi. Ambassador Al-Mouallimi expressed KSA's welcoming the statement made by the Group of 77 and China citing economic and social repercussions of Israel on living conditions of the Palestinian people in occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem (Al-Quds), and the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan. Ambassador Al-Mouallimi also expressed the Arab Group's appreciation for the important role being played by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for West Asia (ESCWA) and efforts being exerted by the Working team for the report on "Economic and social repercussions of the Israeli occupation authorities on the living conditions of the Palestinian people in the occupied territories, including East Jerusalem and Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan. Ambassador Al-Mouallimi stated that the report presented has confirmed serious repercussions being experienced by the Palestinian people as a result of continued Israeli violations of their the basic rights and the population of the occupied Syrian Golan and the violation of Israel's obligations as an occupation state under international conventions, including Fourth Geneva Convention. He said that the report reviewed several blatant violations by Israel, including imposing discriminatory policies in favor of settlers in Palestine and the occupied Syrian Golan regarding the exploitation of lands and distribution of water to expel the landowners from their lands, imposing severe restrictions on the movement of Palestinians which contributed to a deterioration in their economic, social and humanitarian situation. Ambassador Al-Mouallimi noted that ESCWA is concerned with international efforts to ensure the right of development for all, as the international community agreed that sustainable development can not be sustainable unless it is comprehensive and fair, stressing that the Palestinian people and the Arab people in the occupied Syrian Golan need from the international community to prevent Israeli occupation authorities from continuing heinous practices that are still imposed on Palestinian citizens under occupation authorities. --SPA 11:27 LOCAL TIME 08:27 GMT 0004 www.spa.gov.sa/w1143744
