New York, July 02, 2019, SPA -- The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has expressed its concern over the little progress made in dealing with the crisis of the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar along with continuous violations of their human rights and displacement from their homeland for an unknown fate in refugee camps. This came in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's speech delivered by its Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dr. Khalid Mohammed Manzlawi at UN headquarters in New York. Dr. Manzlawi thanked the special envoy of the Secretary-General on Myanmar Christine Schraner Burgener for her briefing on one of the most important humanitarian issues being witnessed by the world as displacement and practicing violations against a persecuted Muslim minority. He reiterated that the KSA welcomes the efforts being exerted by the Governments of Myanmar and Bangladesh to find a solution to the refugee crisis and their return home in safety, dignity, peace and granting them full citizenship rights. Dr. Manzlawi added that since the appointment of an envoy to Myanmar almost two years ago, my country's mission has noted that the envoy's briefing did not include information on what was achieved with respect to the issue and in line with the General Assembly's resolution that calls for safe return of refugees to their homes and homeland in secure and guaranteed dignity. He said that received reports confirm that there is no tangible progress up to date and we want the special envoy to clarify that.
