Saudi Arabia Renews Its Commitment to Issue of Climate Change

Marrakesh, Safar 15, 1438, Nov 15, 2016, SPA -- The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has stressed its commitment to the issue of the climate change at 22nd UN Climate Change Conference in Marrakech after complete ratification of the procedures of Paris Convention. Eng. Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al-Falih, Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources, said: "I am pleased to announce that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have completed ratification of the procedures of Paris Convention which underlines the firm commitment of the Saudi role in addressing the problem of climate change. In this regard, we stress importance of increasing investment in research and development to reduce the environmental impacts from fossil fuel production and consumption which is, therefore, very necessary to achieve the environmental objectives that have been agreed at the Paris Conference. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia remains commitment to meet the world's energy needs through the gradual shift towards a more sustainable environmental future, with taking into account, that this transformation must remain economically and sustainably viable from an environmental perspective at the same time." Eng. Al-Falih led the Kingdom's delegation to the Marrakech conference. In this context, Eng. Khalid Al-Falih said that Saudi Arabia shares the international community's efforts and endeavors to address the challenges posed by climate change and its impacts.
