Minister Dr. Altoraifi further said that there is no doubt that we suffer today, more than ever, from the growing phenomenon of terrorism, a phenomenon that has exacerbated and exploited the crises in the Middle East which led to the abduction of a number of means of traditional and modern media by terrorism and its backers, stressing that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is considered as one of the first countries that suffered from the scourge of terrorism through more than 100 terrorist operations, including 18 operations carried out by elements linked organizationally to foreign governmental agencies, while 268 terrorist operations were thwarted before taking place, pointing out that due to these terrorist acts, scores of our brave security men, citizens and residents have been martyred and wounded, and even the terrorists transgressed the red lines by carrying out a bombing near the Prophet Holy Mosque during the blessed month of last Ramadan. He also drew attention that the Kingdom has worked on the conclusion of many regional and international agreements to combat terrorism, including the Treaty of Organization of Islamic Cooperation to combat international terrorism on July 1, 1999, and it formed an Islamic alliance of 40 countries to fight against these terrorist organizations and enacted legislations on the fight against terrorism to curb its effects locally, regionally and internationally, even it initiated the idea of the establishment of an international center to combat terrorism, during the international Conference on combating terrorism held in Riyadh in 2005, during which the United Nations Centre for Countering Terrorism was founded for which the Kingdom has already donated $ 110 million. --More 15:17 LOCAL TIME 12:17 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w295455
