SPA presents its transforming into digital system before an international symposium

Al-Hammamat, Tunisia, Dhu-AlHijjah, 17, 1437 AH, September 19, 2016, SPA -- The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) has presented its 45-year experience in transforming to digital system before the ongoing international symposium by the Arab News Agencies union held in the Tunisian city of Al-Hammamat. The paper submitted by SPA narrated the story of success to cope with the world telecommunication developments and use them once any has given rise since its establishment in 23 January 1971. This includes using telex and hand delivery of news and reports free of charge to Saudi newspapers and other media means as well as government offices. By December 1975, the ministry of telegraph, post and telephone has assisted SPA to use its network at the time to keep in contact with its offices inside and outside the country as well as a number of Arab and foreign news agencies. In 1978, its services reached 50 countries in the Middle East, north, east and central African countries, south Europe and west Asia. In 1982, SPA started to use the latest communication device to connect its subscribers, leaving behind the former system of aero-frequencies which were subject to climate changes. Late 1997, SPA introduced the computer and in 1999, it added the service of receiving the news through satellites in Arabic and English as per an agreement with the United Press International signed in 1995.
