According to dpa, the army and police were searching a village for militants in the Chowkibal area of Kupwara district after a tip-off, spokesman NN Joshi said. When the security forces closed in around a house in Marsari village, the militants who were holed up inside opened fire late Friday. Two soldiers and four militants were killed in the nearly 12-hour exchange of fire that followed, Joshi said.
