WASHINGTON, Safar 03, 1436, November 25, 2014, SPA -- The White House said Monday that the role of U.S. troops in Afghanistan will shift in 2015 to training Afghan security forces and counterterrorism activities. “The U.S. combat role in Afghanistan will end at the end of this year, in just a little over a month,” White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters. “In 2015, the mission for our men and women in uniform will shift into a different role that will be focusing on training and equipping Afghan security forces and conducting targeted counterterrorism operations against the remnants of al-Qaida that still operate in that region of the world. That will be the focal point of their mission in Afghanistan,” Earnest said. --SPA 11:25 LOCAL TIME 08:25 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
