Manila, Rajab 19, 1438, Apr 16, 2017, SPA -- Eight people were killed in flash floods in the central Philippines amid heavy rains brought about by a tropical depression, disaster relief officials said Sunday. Seven people, including four children, drowned when muddy floodwaters washed away their homes in the town of Carmen in the province of Cebu, 600 kilometers south of Manila, dpa reported. Another victim died in floods in the city of Danao, according to Romina Marasigan, spokeswoman for the national disaster risk reduction council, but she did not give further details. The flash floods occurred after heavy rains brought about by a tropical depression that made landfall over the eastern Philippines on Saturday. More than 4,800 passengers were stranded in ports in the central and eastern Philippines after the coast guard suspended sea travel due to the bad weather. --SPA 23:27 LOCAL TIME 20:27 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w378110
