Jeddah, Sha'ban 1, 1437, May 8, 2016, SPA -- Legal experts from member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will meet on Monday and Tuesday 09-10 May at its headquarters in Jeddah, to consider the draft additional protocols to the OIC Convention on Combating International Terrorism. The proposed additional Protocol and updates to the provisions of the OIC Convention on Combating International Terrorism include the following themes on new trends of terrorism: fight against cyber space terrorism, Combating terrorist financing, Addressing trans-boundary terrorist networks, and respecting Human rights. The Organization of Islamic Cooperation has consistently been at the forefront of the fight against terrorism. The OIC was among the first international organizations to formulate its position against this phenomenon and issued a Code of Conduct on Combating International Terrorism and the Convention in 1994 and 1999, respectively. The proposed additional Protocol seeks to include the new themes, which are either not listed in the two documents, or are referred to but without sufficient details. The Legal Expert Meeting will come up with measures for strengthening cooperation in areas identified in the Code of Conduct and the OIC convention on Combating International Terrorism. Cooperation in combating terrorism is among the key objectives and principles of the OIC Charter. In addition to developing additional protocols and recommending measures for implementation, the legal expert meeting in Jeddah is expected to develop prototypes for strengthening cooperation framework in various areas, including anti-money laundry legislation, extradition, and cooperation between intelligence and security agencies. The meeting will also decide on annual reporting mechanism on the implementation of the provisions of the Convention. --SPA 17:13 LOCAL TIME 14:13 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
