Amman, Ramadan 21, 1436, Jul 8, 2015, SPA -- An earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale hit the port city of Aqaba at 5:15 a.m. on Wednesday from an epicenter 70km south of Aqaba, the Jordan Seismological Observatory said. The Director of Geological Survey Department at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ali Swariah, told Jordan News Agency (Petra) that the quake was centered at a depth of 10km below the surface, south of the city on the shore of Saudi Arabia's Red Sea, but no damages or injuries had been reported. Aqaba lies along the seismically active fault line that divides the Arabian and African plates. On June 27, a quake registering 5.2 on the Richter scale hit Aqaba from an epicenter some 57km south of the city and was also centered at a depth of 10km below ground. --SPA 20:43 LOCAL TIME 17:43 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
