United Nations, Muharram 7, 1436, Oct 31, 2014, SPA -- Forces aligned with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime and Daash militants have shown “callous disregard” for millions of suffering civilians, the United Nations said Thursday. U.N. deputy humanitarian chief Kyung-wha Kang told the Security Council that greater measures are needed to help stop the humanitarian crisis in Syria’s civil war. “The collective punishment inflicted upon civilians is appalling,” Kang said. “And so too is the callous disregard by the parties to the conflict for the people of Syria, for their safety and dignity, and for the country’s future.” Nearly 10 million Syrians have been displaced by the civil war, more than 3 million refugees have fled the country, and 200,000 have been killed, according to the United Nations. --SPA 11:30 LOCAL TIME 08:30 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
