Manila, Ramadan 20, 1435, July 17, 2014, SPA -- The strongest storm to hit the Philippines this year killed 40 people and left millions without power, disaster management officials said Thursday, as typhoon Rammasun headed back out to sea, according to dpa. Most of the deaths were caused by toppled trees, collapsed structures and other debris whipped up by Rammasun's winds of up to 150 kilometres per hour (kph), the national disaster risk management agency said. Four people were listed as missing and 17 were injured, but reports from some areas had not arrived because of the power outage, said Romina Marasigan, spokeswoman for the disaster risk management agency. More than 1.8 million people in Manila and nearby provinces were without electricity for a second day, according to the Manila Electric Company that supplies power to the areas. Millions more were without power in the eastern provinces of Albay, Sorsogon, Camarines Sur and Camarines Norte, said Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla. --SPA 13:27 LOCAL TIME 10:27 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
