RIYADH — Saudi Arabia has signed humanitarian projects on Monday worth more than SR183 million for the earthquake-affected people in Turkey and Syria. The projects included the establishment of 3,000 housing units to shelter the earthquake-affected people, amounting to SR75 million, as well as sponsorship of orphans of earthquake victims within the initiative (their smiles) at a value of SR40 million. This is in addition to the (Saudi Volunteer Life) project to help those affected by the earthquake, at an amount of SR18 million. Moreover, the projects included providing life-saving health care services, at a value of SR17.8 million, as well as life-saving water and sanitation interventions, worth SR6.5 million. Saudi Arabia will also offer the basic food supplies with a value amounting to SR6.5 million, in addition to an urgent medical response for the relief of the earthquake-affected people in Syria, with an amount of SR19.8 million. These projects and initiatives were announced on Monday during the third edition of the Riyadh International Humanitarian Forum, which comes under the patronage of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, with the presence of Emir of Riyadh Prince Faisal Bin Bandar. Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, advisor at the Royal Court and general supervisor of the KSRelief said that Saudi Arabia has added a value to the humanitarian efforts and relief work. “There is a huge need for funding humanitarian work”. Dr. Al-Rabeeah has called for setting aside all conflicts, and to focus on increasing the donations and strengthening the digitization, AI, and all datas, also improving prioritization based on evidence. He said that the third edition of the Riyadh International Humanitarian Forum will discuss uniting efforts, the mechanism of implementing the humanitarian response, as well as it will focus on the food security issues, displacement and migration, and supporting field research for humanitarian work. From his side, Saudi Arabia’s permanent representative to the United Nations Ambassador Abdulaziz Bin Mohammed Al-Wasel confirmed that there is a need for comprehensive cooperation between countries in the field of humanitarian work to combat its challenges. “The humanitarian needs and other crises can only be dealt with the solidarity of everyone.” Al-Wasel said.
