Ambassador Hussam Zaki, Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League, said that an extraordinary Arab summit would possibly be held to discuss the US decision on Jerusalem, adding that the Arab mini-ministerial delegation, which was formed by a resolution of the Council of Arab Foreign Ministers, would convene in its first meeting on Jan. 6 in Jordan. During a press conference held at the headquarters of the Arab League, Zaki affirmed that the Arab summit would be held in the Saudi capital in March and that the Arab ministerial delegation on Jerusalem would include the foreign ministers of Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Morocco and Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit. He stressed that hasty measures should be avoided with regards to US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and to transfer the US embassy, noting that the issue required patience and wisdom. “The aim of the current Arab action is to support the Palestinian cause and help the Palestinians,” Zaki said. “There is a wise determination among the Arab countries and Arab foreign ministers to hold better consultations on how to deal with the American decision.” On a different note, the Arab League official said that Aboul Gheit would conduct a visit to Libya next year within efforts to resolve the ongoing crisis. He noted that a meeting of the Quartet on Libya would be held in Addis Ababa next month, which will include representatives from the Arab League, the United Nations, the African Union and the European Union to coordinate regional and international efforts to reach a comprehensive solution for the current situation.
