RIYADH: Saudi Arabia will organize, in partnership with the United Nations, the virtual donors’ conference for Yemen that is due to take place on Tuesday. The conference aims to increase awareness of the humanitarian crisis in the country and to obtain financial pledges. The Kingdom called on donor countries to support efforts to make the conference a success and stand in solidarity with the people of Yemen. The UN on Thursday announced the conference in partnership with Riyadh, saying the aim is to raise some $2.4 billion to pay for the world’s biggest aid operation. Around 80 percent of Yemens population of nearly 30 million people need aid. The conference will take place at 4 p.m. Saudi time and will be streamed live on https://ksrelief.org/live and http://webtv.un.org. The opening speech will be delivered by the Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres, while the Kingdom’s speech will be delivered by the Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan.
