RIYADH — Saudi Arabia"s Human Rights Commission (HRC) spotted 164 cases of human rights violations in various regions of the Kingdom in the last one year, the HRC spokesperson said in a statement. According to the spokesperson, the commission attended as many as 70 trails involving 85 defendants in security cases, out of whom 79 were Saudis and 6 were non-Saudis. The commission also followed up the trial procedures to ensure the defendants got their legal rights, as stipulated by the pertinent regulations.” As regards human rights violations, the spokesperson said that the cases varied depending on the subject matter. The cases included criminal justice, protection from harm, health, social care, education, labor, human trafficking, identity and nationality, and various other cases, the spokesperson said. She added that during its visits and field inspection rounds, the commission uncovered a number of violations and took necessary legal measures to address them in line with the laid down procedures, which include ensuring the implementation of the laws and regulations pertaining to human rights, and the detection of abuses and violations. The spokesperson also highlighted the diversity of the mechanism for monitoring these cases, which include social media sites, online videos, newspapers, and magazines.
