MIRAN SHAH, JUNE 18, SPA -- PAKISTANI TROOPS KILLED TWOSUSPECTED MILITANTS AND DETAINED FIVE OTHERS SUNDAY AFTER INSURGENTS ATTACKED A MILITARY POST IN NORTHWESTERN PAKISTAN, AN OFFICIAL SAID. THE MILITANTS, BELIEVED TO BE PAKISTANI, USED SMALL ARMS TO ATTACK A SECURITY POST IN THE NORTH WAZIRISTAN TRIBAL REGION, WHICH BORDERS AFGHANISTAN, THE INTELLIGENCE OFFICIAL SAID ON CONDITION OF ANONYMITY DUE TO THE SECRETIVE NATURE OF HIS JOB. SOLDIERS RETURNED FIRE, KILLING TWO MILITANTS IN SPIN WAM, ABOUT 35 KILOMETERS (20 MILES) NORTH OF THE REGION’S MAIN TOWN OF MIRAN SHAH, THE OFFICIAL SAID. THE REMAINING INSURGENTS FLED. THERE WERE NO REPORTED TROOP CASUALTIES, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS REPORTED.
