Tehran, Sept 27, SPA -- Iran threatened Tuesday to resumeuranium enrichment and block U.N. inspections of itsnuclear facilities unless the U.N. nuclear agency retractedits moves to refer the country to the Security Council forpossible sanctions, The Associated Press reported. Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi told reportersIran was giving a "serious warning" to its Europeannegotiating partners and the International Atomic EnergyAgency, the U.N. nuclear watchdog. The IAEA passed a resolution on the weekend that put Iranon the verge of referral to the Security Council unlessTehran eases suspicions about its nuclear activities. Theresolution told Iran to suspend all uranium enrichmentactivities, to abandon construction of a heavy waternuclear reactor, and to grant access to certain researchand development locations and documentation. Iran has rejected the resolution, protesting it waspolitically motivated and without legal foundation. Asefi said Tuesday that Iran was asking the Europeans _Britain, France and Germany _ and the IAEA for two things: "First, they should not insist (on the terms of theresolution). Second, they should correct it. If the otherparties' reaction is not along these lines, the IslamicRepublic of Iran will take these measures," Asefi said. He said Iran would cease to abide by the "voluntarymeasures" that it has been implementing as an expressionof good will.--SPA1134 Local Time 0834 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/292467
