Al-Atiyyah hails GCC-Chinese relations

New York, Sept 29, SPA -- Secretary General of the Arab Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Abdul-Rahman Al-Attiyyah has praised the existing GCC-Chinese relations, and said China has been supporting Arab causes notably the Palestinian cause. Addressing a press conference after a meeting of the GCC foreign ministers with their Chinese counterpart Li Zhaoxing here on Tuesday, Al-Attiyyah said they had reviewed means ofenhancing further GCC--Chinese relations in addition to the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and Iraq as well as the Iranian occupation of the UAE's islands. They also reviewed aspects of cooperation in fighting terrorism and measures that had been undertaken by the GCC states in this respect in addition to the issue of non-proliferation of weapons of mass-destruction and making the Middle East free from them. They also discussed the existing economic and commercial relations between the GCC states and China. The meeting was held on the fringes of the 59th session of the UN's General Assembly. Earlier the GCC foreign ministers held talks with their US, Russian, European Union (EU), Indian and South East Asian counterparts.
