United Nations, Rajab 15, 1433, Jun 5, 2012, SPA - Joint U.N.-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan does not favor expanding the number of observers in the ceasefire monitoring mission in Syria, his spokesman told Reuters in Geneva on Monday. Annan, who is to brief both the U.N. Security Council and General Assembly in New York City on Thursday, will hold talks on Friday with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, spokesman Ahmad Fawzi said. A total of 300 United Nations observers have been deployed in Syria to verify an April 12 truce brokered by the former U.N. Secretary-General, which has yet to take hold. “Any change in mandate including its size needs to be discussed and authorized by the Security Council. At the moment, Annan is not in favor of expansion,” Fawzi said. --SPA 11:18 LOCAL TIME 08:18 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/1004776
