KSrelief Supervisor General: Saudi Arabia offered over USD 19 billion as humanitarian, relief assistance to Yemen

Riyadh, March 17, 2022, SPA -- Adviser at the Saudi Royal Court and Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah has noted that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia over the past few years has offered more than USD 19.39 billion as humanitarian, relief, development and economic assistance to the Republic of Yemen. The remarks were made during Dr. Al Rabeeah’s virtual participation yesterday representing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the Yemen Donor Conference 2022, which was held under the auspices of the UN, Switzerland, and Sweden in Geneva. The conference was held in the presence of UN Secretary General António Guterres, President of Switzerland Ignazio Cassis, Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs Ann Linde, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths, and Saudi Arabia's Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva Abdulaziz Al-Wasel. The supervisor general expressed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s gratitude and deep appreciation for the UN, Switzerland and Sweden for their keenness on organizing the Yemen Donor Conference 2022, expressing hope to reach more sustainable and more profound solutions to alleviate the humanitarian suffering in Yemen and dealing with its causes. He added that we meet today while Yemen is facing a big humanitarian crisis, which is exacerbated by the coup Houthi militia’s acts of big escalation in Yemen, which went beyond Yemen and escalated its terrorist acts to reach neighboring countries, which requires a firm position from the international community to protect the brotherly Yemeni people and reach sustainable solutions that can realize peace, security and development for Yemen, its people, the region and the entire world. Dr. Al Rabeeah said: “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia praises the positive procedures of the Security Council to adopt Resolution 2624 (2022), which classified the Houthi group as a terrorist group and list Houthis as a being under the weapon embargo,” stressing Saudi Arabia’s keenness on the security and stability of Yemen and the region, and its commitment to supporting all efforts aimed at reaching a sustainable political solution according to the three references in a way that guarantees the unity and safety of Yemen and its people. He also said that, out of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s humanitarian role and its keenness on the safety of the Yemeni people, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will continue to support Yemen with relief and humanitarian programs to alleviate the humanitarian suffering in coordination with UN, international and local partners. --SPA 12:24 LOCAL TIME 09:24 GMT 0008 www.spa.gov.sa/w1708428
