Miami, Dhu-AlQa'dah 9, 1436, Aug 24, 2015, SPA -- Wind and rain hit islands along the eastern edge of the Caribbean on Monday as Danny weakened to a tropical depression. Meanwhile, a low-pressure system 2,000 kilometers to the east had a 90 percent chance of becoming a tropical cyclone in the next 48 hours, the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) said. In the Caribbean, there were no immediate reports of injuries or significant damage from Danny as it passed through the northeastern part of the sea. The center of the storm was located about 30 kilometers south of Guadeloupe on Monday morning and was moving toward the west near 19 kilometers per hour (kph) with maximum sustained winds that had weakened to near 55 kph. The NHC said Danny was expected to continue weakening and degenerate into a remnant low-pressure system later in the day. The storm was expected to drop 5 to 10 centimeters of rain over eastern Caribbean islands, the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico through Tuesday. Far away, in the central Atlantic Ocean, a tropical depression is likely to form by Monday night while the low-pressure system moves westward at around 32 kph, the NHC said. --SPA 16:45 LOCAL TIME 13:45 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
