Colombo, Sep. 10, 2019, SPA -- The President of the Republic of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena received at the Presidential Palace in Colombo today the Speaker of the Shura Council of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Al-Sheikh and his accompanying delegation currently visiting Sri Lanka. During the meeting, Sri Lankan President praised the pivotal role played by Saudi Arabia under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in combating terrorism and rejecting extremism in the world so that the world can enjoy security and stability. The President of the Republic of Sri Lanka noted the bilateral relations between the two countries, stressing that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has supported the Republic of Sri Lanka many times, through the humanitarian aid provided by the Kingdom, and the role played by the Saudi Fund for Development in supporting development projects in Sri Lanka in the fields of health, education and water, wishing to develop and strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, especially the parliamentary ties between the two chambers. For his part, the Speaker of the Shura Council conveyed the greetings of the Custodian of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, to the President of Sri Lanka, underscoring the Kingdom's keenness to strengthen relations with the Republic of Sri Lanka.
