The Saudi-US relations have passed through important stages which have helped boost the relations between the two countries, including the visit of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud on April 11, 2012 to the United States - when he was Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister - at the invitation of former US Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta. During the visit, he met US President Barack Obama, and discussed with him the strengthening of relations between the two countries, especially in the joint military and strategic sphere. On 27 January 2015, President Barack Obama, accompanied by a high-level delegation, visited the kingdom to offer condolences on the death of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and held during the visit talks with King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on bilateral relations between the two countries and the latest developments in the region. The latest by President Obama to the kingdom was on the 13th of Rajab of the year 1437 AH, corresponding to April 20, 2016 AD. During it, he met with Custodian of the two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and attended the summit which was held between the leaders of the Gulf cooperation Council (GCC) and the President. On 19 Dhulqiadah 1436 H corresponding to September 03 2015, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud arrived in the city of Washington in the United States on an official visit at the invitation of President Barack Obama President of the United States and met at his residence in Washington with Secretary of State John Kerry. On Dhulqiadah 20, 1436 H, corresponding to 04 September 2015, President Barack Obama President of the United States received in the White House Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and held a session of talks during which they reviewed the strong relations between the two countries. On the same day, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud received at his residence in Washington, DC former President of the United States George W.
