Dr. Mohammed Al-Suwailem said that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has a system of telecommunications at the global level. "There are aspects that can be improved in the telecommunications and information technology in the Kingdom. We analyze them with our colleagues in all ministries and units of the Economic and Development Affairs Council headed by the Deputy Crown Prince. We came up with a number of challenges that must be overcame in order to achieve objectives of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Vision 2030, " he added. The minister added that the ministry faced some challenges, including limitedness of infrastructure and availability of human capital in the field of information technology in the Kingdom. "We need to raise employment in this sector with proportion of 20% to 25%. We found that the graduates of the universities in the field of information technology and telecommunications need training," Al-Suwailem said. "There are some institutions in the private sector do not give an opportunity of training directly for the new graduates. This leads to a shortfall in the human element in this vital field. We seek to address this issue in general, where the IT industry in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia contributes with 1.2% of Gross domestic product (GDP)," he added.
