Saudi Press: Saudi Arabia Makes Food Security High Priority in Development Plans

Riyadh, June 23, 2020, SPA -- Saudi newspapers highlighted in their editorials today a number of issues, at local, regional, and international arenas. Al-Yaum newspaper said in its editorial that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia supports the Cairo Declaration Initiative on Libya, which was announced on the sixth of June 2020, which sought a political solution to the Libyan crisis, ceasefire and bloodshed, and preserving the unity of the Libyan territories as required by its national interest. The government of Saudi Arabia stressed that the security of the Arab Republic of Egypt is an integral part of the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the entire Arab nation, and Saudi Arabia stands with Egypt in its right to defend its borders and people from extremist tendencies and terrorist militias and their supporters in the region, the paper added. The paper concluded that Saudi Arabia calls on the international community to assume its responsibilities and respond to the calls and initiative of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to reach a comprehensive solution that ensures the safety and security of the Libyan lands, and preventing illegal foreign interventions that feed terrorism in the region. Al-Bilad newspaper said in its editorial that Saudi Arabia made the food security a high priority and a permanent strategic goal in the development plans. The paper said that Saudi Arabia targets to achieve high levels of self-production and stock of basic food and catering goods, whether in normal conditions or in crisis. The paper added that all sectors and outlets in Saudi Arabia have remained and are still stable with high reliability in meeting the needs of citizens and residents for more than three consecutive months. The paper pointed out that the size of the Saudi Arabian local agricultural domestic product (ADP) amounted to SAR 61.4 billion, representing 4% of its non-oil GDP, according to the statement of Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Eng. Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadley.
