Srinagar, Kashmir, Sha'ban 14, 1437, May 21, 2016, SPA -- At least five militants were killed in a gunbattle with security forces in India-administered Kashmir on Saturday, officials said. According to dpa, soldiers and policemen surrounded a house in a village in the Kupwara district after receiving an intelligence tip-off that a group of rebels were hiding inside. "Militants holed up inside the house fired on the security forces, triggering the gunbattle. Five militants were killed in the clash that lasted for nearly nine hours," a local police officer said on condition of anonymity. Three soldiers were also injured in the encounter.
