Saudi Arabia assessed on Tuesday all the Arab and Muslim stances and efforts that emerged in recent days over the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people. The Saudi cabinet welcomed in this regard the extraordinary Arab League meeting that was held last week to address the fallout from the United States’ relocating of its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. The cabinet session, chaired by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman Abdulaziz, had convened in Jeddah. The Arab League condemned last week the crimes committed by Israel against the Palestinian people, demanding that a probe be launched into the violence on the Gaza border. At least 60 Palestinians were killed last week by Israeli troops during protests at the Gaza border against the US embassy opening, drawing international outcry and calls for an investigation. The Saudi cabinet also hailed the meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation for also calling for a probe to look into the crimes committed by Israeli forces against unarmed Palestinians in Gaza. The OIC had met in Istanbul on Friday to address the Gaza bloodshed. The United Nations Human Rights Council had also held an emergency meeting in Geneva to tackle the violence, urging the formation of a probe to look into all violations of International Humanitarian Law and human rights in the occupied Palestinian territories. Separately, King Salman thanked various leaders and Saudis for congratulating him on the advent of the holy fasting month of Ramadan. He also briefed the cabinet on the telephone call he held with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. The two leaders had discussed the latest developments in the Palestinian territories and King Salman expressed to him the Kingdom’s condemnation of the unrest. He stressed Saudi Arabia’s firm stances on the Palestinian cause and support for the Palestinian people in restoring their legitimate rights. The monarch also briefed the ministers on the details of the telephone call he received from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in which they discussed latest regional developments.
