UN envoy meets Congo rebel leader

JOMBA, Congo, November 16, SPA -- The U.N.'s special envoy on Congo metthe Central African country's main rebel leader for thefirst time Sunday in a bid to end the crisis. Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo flew byhelicopter to the rebel-held town of Jomba, near theUgandan border, and was greeted with a hug by gray-suitedrebel leader Laurent Nkunda. Obasanjo inspected two rows of rebel fighters who stood information. He told a translator to tell them «they will bebetter as part of a national army than as rebels.» The two then entered a church compound for private talks, according to a report of Associated Press.--SPA www.spa.gov.sa/608068
