Saudi Press: Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Leads Global Efforts in Confronting COVID-19

Riyadh, June 05, 2020, SPA -- Saudi newspapers highlighted in their editorials today a number of issues at local, regional, and international arenas. Al-Riyadh newspaper reported in its editorial that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is very keen to support Yemen in order to overcome its difficult humanitarian and health conditions being caused by Iran-backed Al-Houthi militia. The paper said that for further support for Yemen as it is witnessing the outbreak of novel coronavirus pandemic which has spread across all over the world, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia organized on 2 June 2020, the virtual High-Level Pledging Event for the Humanitarian Crisis in Yemen brought together representatives of more than 125 Member States, and International Organizations, UN Agencies, NGOs and Civil Society to raise funding to meet the humanitarian needs of people affected by the conflict. "Thirty countries announced pledges for humanitarian action in Yemen, including 14 announcements to support the Yemen Humanitarian Fund. Altogether, donors pledged US$1.35 billion of which US$500 pledged by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia only as part of its pioneering role and ongoing commitment to Yemen and its people in spite of all of these difficult challenges and obstacles." Al-Riyadh concluded. For its part, Al-Bilad newspaper reported in its editorial that the in the light of its global responsibilities in confronting COVID-19 pandemic and its severe impacts at the health, economic and humanitarian levels, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is continuing its efforts and initiatives to reinforce the international efforts, under the wise leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and HRH the Crown Prince. The paper cited the Kingdom’s Presidency of the extraordinary virtual summit of G20 leaders when it stressed the importance of developing roadmap to address this pandemic and moving forward in coordinating global efforts in this regard. Al-Yaum newspaper commented in its editorial on another Saudi achievement made by King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) through its success in ranking 4th globally according to the annual classification of the US National Academy of Inventors and Intellectual Property Owners for Universities in 2019, reflecting the great progress being witnessed by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at all fields.
