Riyadh, Sha'ban 17, 1437, May 24, 2016, SPA -- The 35th anniversary of the formation of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) for Arab States will fall tomorrow, on Wednesday, dated May 25, 2016 after the historic decision issued on May 25, 1981, in Abu Dhabi, announcing the establishment of the Council emanating from the common historical, social and economic characteristics that unite the peoples of the GCC countries, and the customs and traditions that are bound together and the unity of their determination. The Council's leaders have been working during those years to direct its march towards achieving its objectives that serve the interests of the peoples of the Gulf and the development of their countries' relations with different countries and peoples. Over the past 35 years, the march of the Council has witnessed several developments in various fields where the political affairs sector has the responsibility for the follow-up and implementation of the political decisions and directives issued by the GCC's Supreme Council, its Ministerial Council, and joint meetings with other countries and international groups, on the issues of interest to the Council, in addition to the regional and international developments, such as the Iranian occupation of the three islands of the United Arab Emirates, Iran's nuclear program, the situation in Palestinian territories and the developments of the Arab - Israeli conflict, Syria, Yemen, Iraq, Libya and others.
