With regard to the assurances that might be given to the Syrian opposition, Al-Jubeir said, "We do not give assurances to the Syrian opposition" as we, and our Syrian brothers, are members of the same team. Therefore, both of us received assurances at the same time from the United Nations according to the UN resolution No. 2254 paragraph 12 and 13, he added. As regards the humanitarian aid and the indiscriminate shelling, Al-Jubeir said that this issue is not controversial as they have been stipulated and demanded by the UN Security Council resolution. The reassurances to open ways for humanitarian aid were provided by the Great Powers to our brothers in Syria according to the understanding reached in Geneva 1, Al-Jubeir said, citing the agreement of negotiators in Geneva on creating an interim authority away from Bashar Al-Assad, drafting a new constitution and paving the way for the emergence of new Syria where Bashar Al-Assad has no role to play. Our role is to provide support for the opposition and not to exercise pressure on them, consult with them and review the best options and help them to reach more effective decisions, he stated. Al-Jubeir added that the Syrian opposition was ready for new Geneva, recalling that they met in Riyadh and named their negotiating team, rejecting to accompany terrorist groups or pro-Iran groups, a suggestion submitted by some other countries. He said Saudi Arabia supports the opposition's rejection. He added that the Syrian opposition wanted to see a road map at Geneva that must start with a peaceful transition. However, they are going to submit their conditions, prior to starting the negotiations, and if these demands were not met, they could walkout at any time, he concluded. --More 01:10 LOCAL TIME 22:10 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
